Things To Remember Before Leaving Home

There are a few things to remember before leaving home and heading to your flight. Airport readiness begins long before you board the plane. It’s always worth making a concise checklist of things you don’t want to forget before flying out.

This list should include some key items that you can’t fly without. This includes your identification or passport depending on where you’re going. This is also the time to ensure you have your wallet, tech essentials like headphones and chargers, any medications, or other important items. Make a list and keep it in the notepad on your phone and check it off as you add them to your bag.

Something else to remember before you leave home is to notify your bank that you’re traveling to a different destination. Some banking institutions have fraud checks on debit and credit cards to ensure your funds are safe. Using them in different locations can trigger your card to lock during a purchase. Be sure to let the bank know where you’re headed.

Luggage, Carry-On, and Checked Bags

Unless you’re buying a new wardrobe in a new destination, you’re probably taking some luggage along with you. Airport readiness includes determining what type of luggage best suits your travel needs. You also need to decide if you’ll be checking a bag or bringing a carry-on.

If you decide to check your luggage, be sure to include any liquids like body wash, lotions, and mouthwash in that suitcase. For those bringing carry-ons, remember liquid items must be 3.4 ounces or less. It may be best to grab travel-size toiletries if you’re not checking a bag.

Saving Time At The Airport

There are many steps you can take to ensure you move swiftly and efficiently through the airport. To save time at the airport, consider signing up for TSA Precheck. Before your trip, travelers sign up online and pay an $85 fee upon approval. The fee covers your benefits for five years and allows you to walk through airport security without removing your shoes, clothing, and electronics.

Many airlines also allow travelers to check in to their flights beforehand. You can pay for your checked luggage, select your seat, and add your boarding pass to your phone. This will save you time standing in lines at the airport and get you to your terminal faster.

Going Through Security

It’s important to follow security regulations when preparing to board a flight. Not only is it essential for airport readiness, but it will also help you save time. When going through airport security, travelers should be prepared to empty out the necessary items requested by security personnel. Have your identification readily available so you can easily move through the line.

If you have a carry-on bag with liquids or other regulated items, have them in a freezer bag for easy access. Do the same thing if you’re traveling with multiple electronic devices that have to be removed from your bag.

Keep Comfort In Mind

Flying on planes isn’t always the most comfortable so be sure to add the proper comfort essentials to your airport readiness list. This could include travel pillows, blankets, and even an eye mask if you intend to go to sleep. It’s also important to wear clothes and shoes that allow you to fly comfortably.
