After a trip to Turkey, a couple say that they can’t leave until they pay the full cost of a surprise medical bill.
StokeonTrent Live reported that couple Saul Daly and Kathleen McLean are unable to leave Turkey until they pay the full intensive care medical bill of $18,000 USD (£15,000). Saul was rushed to hospital while on vacation in Turkey where medics found blood in his lungs.
What was originally thought to be back pain caused by the hotel bed turned out to be a near- fatal bleed in Saul’s lungs. Over time, the pain worsened which is when the couple sought out a doctor. After describing his symptoms to the doctor, Saul was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
“At the medical center Saul had scans and tests done which revealed that he had blood in his lungs and was very sick and was then transferred 85 miles away to Yasam Hospital in Antayla and was blue-lighted the whole way there.” shared Kathleen in a report.
Luckily, the treatment was fast; Kathleen even described it as “fantastic’. The hospital recently gave Saul permission to leave and further his recovery in the UK. The problems began when the couple tried to get the medical bills covered by the insurance company.
According to reports, the insurance company is only willing to pay less than half of the bill. In the meantime, Saul is unable to leave the hospital and return home until the bill is paid in full.
The couple is currently trying to raise funds to return home to the UK. Their friend, Jody Mccrae, launched a GoFundMe page to help raise the full amount.
