A cultural and culinary spot in Los Angeles, Linden’s Black-owned and -operated restaurant on Sunset Boulevard is rising to prominence fast. Linden is the brainchild of Sterling “Steelo” Brim, Alahna Jade, and partners Vincent Bryant and Scott Williams. The restaurant is spearheaded by the talented Chef Jonathan Harris. This dynamic team aims to redefine the hospitality industry with its innovative and inclusive approach to dining.

The Experience of Dining at Linden

Drawing inspiration from New York City’s multicultural fabric, the restaurant boasts a menu celebrating African-American, Caribbean, Jewish, South Asian, and other diverse influences. The team, many of whom have deep roots in New York, wanted to bring that dining culture to Los Angeles. Signature dishes include lamb chops that fall off the bone and spicy lobster rigatoni. There is also the “friend or foe” cocktail that perfectly balances spicy and sweet. In a city where ambiance often takes precedence over food, Linden excels in both.

Furthermore, the restaurant provides an intimate and upscale environment. The setting challenges the stereotypical image of Black-owned establishments. Additionally, Chef Jonathan Harris, who brings a mix of Costa Rican and African-American heritage to the table, is known for his inventive cooking style. Speaking to ESSENCE, Sterling Brim said, “Our friend, our partner Bryce bumped into him at a party that he was catering … and just let him know, ‘Hey, I think you’re bigger than catering. I think you should be doing a restaurant.'”

Overcoming Industry Challenges

Navigating the hospitality industry as young Black restaurateurs comes with its own set of challenges. However, the team behind Linden has managed to turn these obstacles into opportunities. Their previous success with the Las’ Lap in New York’s Lower East Side concept demonstrates their ability to create a unique dining experience that resonates with a diverse clientele. Bringing that success to Los Angeles, they have managed to carve out a niche for themselves in a competitive market.
