Virgin Galactic is on the verge of a breakthrough in commercial space tourism as it prepares for its inaugural commercial space flight. The company’s stock saw a surge of more than 40% during extended trading on Thursday. The impressive influx in interest indicates a heightened level of enthusiasm among investors.

Scheduled within the launch window of June 27 to June 30, the first flight, dubbed Galactic 01, will carry three members of the Italian Air Force into space. The inaugural flight’s members will conduct microgravity research accompanied by science payloads.

This mission is a significant stride for Virgin Galactic, showcasing its potential to conduct commercial flights on a regular basis. Following the successful completion of Galactic 01, it will be a critical factor for long-term success. The company also has outlined plans for a second commercial flight in early August, with subsequent monthly flights to follow.

Preparing For Takeoff

In preparation for the occasion, Virgin Galactic recently completed its final test spaceflight in May. The team also conducted routine analyses and inspections of its carrier aircraft, VMS Eve, and spacecraft, VSS Unity. With these milestones achieved, the company is now ready to fulfill its backlog of more than 800 passengers. The lengthy waitlist of individuals eagerly anticipates the opportunity to experience space travel through Virgin Galactic’s pioneering service.

Founded in 2004 by billionaire Richard Branson, the company aims to launch the first commercial spaceline for Earth. Its vision is to offer both scientific research missions and private astronaut space missions.

CEO Michael Colglazier expressed his enthusiasm for this significant step forward. In a statement, Colglazier states, “We are launching the first commercial spaceline for Earth with two dynamic products – our scientific research and private astronaut space missions.”

By showcasing the value and power of its unique suborbital science lab, Virgin Galactic aims to demonstrate the extraordinary opportunities that await those embarking on their space journeys. With the imminent launch of Galactic 01, Virgin Galactic is on the cusp of a new era in space tourism, marking the beginning of regular commercial flights that will redefine our relationship with space exploration.
