If you are anything like me, then self-care is a big part of your life— especially after navigating the global pandemic for a whole year.

Sadly, on Feb. 22 my mother passed away from cancer, and as her only child the weight of everything happening around me, left me seeking a quick getaway to regroup.

Several Black women recommended Château Élan in North Georgia, as a great place to escape when you need to pamper yourself. So, I hopped in my car and made the 3-hour drive from Charlotte, NC.

When you pull up onto the property you are met with a perfectly manicured sign cut into the hedges, letting you know that you have arrived. The long driveway up to the building looks like something you would see in a European movie.

What to do

The 3500-acre property features a winery, vineyard spanning throughout, full-service spa, outdoor pool, 5 restaurants/bars, and an inn.

If you decide to stay overnight, you can opt for several packages that include glasses of wine, breakfast, wine tastings and more. Bicycles and a round at the driving range are complimentary.

The spa has literally any service you can imagine from massages, custom facials, hydro tubs for detox soaks, and a restaurant with some of the best crab cakes around.

It is a great place for couples as well as friends, or even a solo traveler like me. You will definitely want to bring your camera and a few cute outfits, because there are several IG-worthy photo spots.

In accordance with Georgia’s COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required throughout the property except when actively eating or drinking. Additionally, some of the spa’s extras like the steam room and saunas are temporarily closed.

I opted for a spa package that included a 50-minute massage, 50-minute custom facial, and lunch. I also stayed overnight and chose a package that came with two glasses of wine (any varietal) and breakfast. It was all well worth the money. I would love to go back in the spring or summer when the leaves and grapes are growing around the vineyard. I’m sure it’s absolutely stunning.
