Curly hair events are like a right of passage for all natural hair lovers. It’s our safe space to make new friends, get free products and learn little tips and tricks that’ll help strengthen our tresses.

If you’re looking to attend a natural hair event, here’s a quick guide to five of the best events coming this summer.

Afrolicious Hair Expo

June 2, 2019

Houston, TX

One of the biggest natural hair celebrations takes place in six major cities across the US this summer. Next up is Houston, featuring an Afrocentric fashion show, tons of giveaways and a Lil Miss Afrolicious Pageant show for girls ages 5-12.

I wonder if anyone will do the bump with me down the Soul Train Dance competition.

There’s a gift bag waiting at the door for the first 100 ladies with tickets. The expo also stops in Dallas and Chicago this Summer, as well as Atlanta and Los Angeles in the Fall.

Little Me Hair Day

June 9, 2019

Atlanta, GA

Calling all parents of natural hair kids, this is where you need to be next month. Enjoy a two-hour class at HoneeComb Natural Hair Salon to learn the ins and outs of how to properly care for your child’s natural hair. Learn washing tips, braid/twist techniques, and find the best products for detangling.

New Orleans Natural Hair Expo (NONHExpo)

July 6-7, 2019

New Orleans, Louisiana

In less than two months, the buzzing city of New Orleans will be filled with thousands of beautiful natural haired women for the ultimate natural hair experience. There will be food, fun, live entertainment and a buffet style-brunch to close out the two-day event, presented by NONHExpo 2019 and @ILovetheDoux. It’s where “Natural Hair Meets New Orleans!” Now my only question is who’s coming with me. Get your tickets soon.

Curlfest

July 27, 2019

Brooklyn, NY

Curlfest is an unapologetic space for natural hair and beauty in various styles and colors. Surround yourself in an oasis of kinks, curls, afro, locs and more. Last year set the bar so high for me with their photo exhibits, live performances, and Shelah Marie dropping gems about happiness and black love (two things we need more of). Powered by Curly Girl Collective, this must-see event typically takes place in Brooklyn but has moved to Randall’s Island to accommodate its growing number of attendees. Stay tuned because Atlanta has just been added as their second location this year. I’m so excited I might go to both.

CurlyTreats Fest

July 27, 2019

London, United Kingdom

Grab your friends and hop on a flight to London this summer for the largest outdoor hair event in Europe. This is the place where black women are empowering other black women to embrace their natural hair. CurlyTreats Fest celebrates beards, curls, fros, kinks, and locs. You can also gain access to discounted health, beauty, natural hair, and wellness products while making new curly-haired friends at the braid bar.
