Tracee Ellis Ross’ latest trip included lots of bikinis — and the book Gorilla, My Love by Toni Cade Bambara.

The actress and Pattern Beauty founder shared her “solo vacay” photo dump on May 31. Amid her mirror selfies and vacation snapshots, Ross included a photo of herself basking in the sunshine with Bambara’s 1972 debut written work. The 51-year-old former Black-ish star held Gorilla, My Love close to her chest and donned a slight smile.

The longtime celeb didn’t disclose where she was vacationing. Still, it looked warm, sunny, and perfectly inviting for a peaceful solo stay.

What Is Gorilla, My Love About?

Gorilla, My Love is a collection of 15 fictional short stories. Through African American storytelling, it offers “compelling portraits of a wide range of unforgettable characters.” According to Penguin Random House, the stories depict everything “from sassy children to cunning old men, from uptown New York to rural North Carolina.”

Where Does Tracee Ellis Ross Vacation?

Ross has been known to vacation all over the world. She’s also been candid about how growing up with her superstar mother, Diana Ross, made her comfortable as a child of the world.

Moreover, Ross has a long history of sharing her love of solo travel and encouraging women to take a leap, if they’d like to. In a 2021 Coveteur interview, she said, “Let it be a learning experience for you, and know that everything in life is a mixed bag.”

In 2019, the actress told comedienne Lilly Singh, “[solo travel is] empowering and has afforded me the opportunity to connect with other human beings. [And] to see how we are all so much alike [and] learn about different cultures and traditions. And to really open up my understanding of what it is to be a human. It has given my life a richness that I really appreciate.”

Ross’ forthcoming docuseries, Tracee Travels, is slated to premiere in 2025 via Roku Originals. Viewers will accompany Ross during her various solo travels and adventures. However, there are no details yet regarding where we’ll see Ross land.

“Tracee invites viewers on her journey as she meticulously, laboriously, and sometimes ridiculously prepares for and travels solo to spectacular locations,” says the show’s press release. “Tracee charts her own path as she explores the intersection of beauty, fashion, design, food, and culture at each stop of her trip.”
