Without further ado, here are the Travel Noire Awards nominees for the Most Popular Destination for Black Travelers. Cast your vote here until June 13.
Colombia
Only a quick flight from the U.S., Colombia is undoubtedly a favorite destination among Black travelers. The country is brimming with culture and beauty, and offers much to do and see. Some of its top cities are Cartagena, Medellin, and Bogota. But Colombia is also home to idyllic islands and nature reserves. And let us not forget the iconic Palenqueras of the very first free town in the Americas.
Senegal
African Americans have been flocking to Senegal, and for good reason. The nation is one of the warmest and most welcoming destinations for diasporans, allowing us to learn about our history and get in touch with our roots. In addition to the harrowing slave trade sites on Gorée Island, visitors marvel at the natural beauty of the country’s beaches, wildlife, and national parks, as well as explore the magnificent history of the people comprising a part of our cultural legacy.
Belize
Belize has much to offer, including a rich, lush terrain. Black travelers enjoy experiencing it all, from untouched jungles and ancient Mayan ruins to the unique Garifuna culture and over 500 different species of marine life. Ambergris Caye and Belize City are two of visitors’ favorite spots within the country.
Tulum
Central America is home to some of the world’s most hospitable destinations, which are both convenient and affordable for American travelers. Tulum has remained a popular destination for these and other reasons. Ancient Mayan ruins, beautiful beaches, crystal clear cenotes, and some of the tastiest food around are just a small portion of what Tulum has to offer.
Zanzibar
Zanzibar is a must-see destination every traveler hopes to be able to cross off their bucket list. If historic Stone Town with its blend of cultural influences doesn’t attract you, the prospect of enjoying the pristine turquoise waters of this picturesque East African island just might. Swimming with rescued sea turtles at Baraka Aquarium and monkey-watching at Jozani Forest are some favorite activities.
