JetBlue recently took its first flight to Canada. Flight number 603 traveled from New York’s JFK airport to Vancouver last Thursday.

The carrier will be flying daily from JFK to Vancouver on an Airbus A320. JetBlue is the only airline to have nonstop flights between the two cities.

Andrea Lusso, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning says, “The addition of Vancouver to our route map marks an important milestone for JetBlue as our first Canadian destination. We look forward to not only introducing our outstanding service and competitive fares to Canadian customers but also providing access to all the cities we serve from New York.”

1. Nonstop from New York JFK to Vancouver

Flights will leave JFK daily in the evening with a flight time of six and a half hours to Vancouver (YVR). The plane will stay 60 minutes on the ground before turning back to JFK on a red-eye route.

The aircraft is all economy. JetBlue says its A320s “are getting a makeover, with innovative tech, modern interiors and details travelers crave.”

2. Boston to Vancouver Flights

Labor shortages have resulted in JetBlue trimming its summer schedules. This includes a route from Boston to Vancouver. The airline got rid of the flights last month because of “operational refinements.”

“While we will no longer offer nonstop flights between Vancouver and Boston this summer, customers traveling to or from Boston will be able to connect easily to our Vancouver flights with our extensive service between New York and Boston,” says JetBlue in a statement.

3. Vancouver airport’s big win

Although the Boston to Vancouver route was canceled, Vancouver is still winning with its new route from JFK.

“We are thrilled to welcome JetBlue to YVR and are proud to make Vancouver the airline’s first Canadian destination in its growing North American network,” says Russell Atkinson, Director of Air Service Development at Vancouver Airport Authority.

Atkinson goes on to say, “JetBlue brings another direct link between Vancouver and New York City. The new nonstop service to JFK is an important connection between our two regions for both business and leisure travel, further strengthening YVR’s position as a diverse hub and directly benefiting our community and the economy that supports it.”
