The pandemic forced a permanent change in the work landscape, and people have no desire to return to the old way of doing things. In this spirit, the concept of the “wellness workcation,” has picked up steam, though this isn’t possible in all industries. Icelandair studied more than 100 cities to see which ones were optimal for this purpose.

Workcation is a portmanteau of “work” and “vacation,” and Icelandair was curious to know which cities were best suited for this purpose. The carrier took the following factors into account: ease of transportation, wi-fi speed and general happiness.

Have you visited any of the five cities on this list?

The Austrian capital comes in at number one. Here, old world aesthetic blends harmoniously with the modern, and there are many cultural centers to visit. Some include the Vienna State Opera, the Museum of Art History and Schönbrunn Palace- the seat of the Hapsburg Empire.

Copenhagen

Located in Denmark, this is a vibrant, buzzing city filled with history. When you need a break from writing that report for work, go for a ride on your bike. Like Amsterdam, Copenhagen takes biking seriously, and what better way to clear the mind?

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is another historical city, and it’s quite permissive. Some of the top sites include the Museum of Sex, the chief Red Light District and the Anne Frank House. Take that Zoom call in one of the many green parks, or spend some time in one of the coffee shops.

Luxembourg

The capital of this landlocked country is the fourth on Icelandair’s list. Luxembourg’s neighbors are France, Germany and Belgium, and it often falls in their shadow. The Le Chemin de la Corniche, or “the most beautiful balcony of Europe,” offers stunning views for you to enjoy.

Helsinki

There’s plenty see and do during the summer, but the city takes on a whole new personality in the winter. No matter when you’re there for your wellness workcation, you can take a walking tour, visit some unique museums and pick up produce at the Central Market.
