Following Atlanta’s shutdown in the midst of the pandemic, Rhandi and Jonathan Altidor realized that Black grocers were missing in the market.
That realization is exactly what prompted the couple to make sure there was representation. So, the Altidors founded and launched The Better Buggy: a grocery delivery service specifically for Black-owned farms and food suppliers in Atlanta.
“Because of the pandemic, my husband and I were quarantined at home from March until July. We were anxious to visit stores and decided to give a grocery delivery service a try,” said Rhandi. “We’ve always been big on spending our dollars in Black-owned establishments (empowering the businesses mostly overlooked). We realized our usual Black-owned spots were no longer remotely accessible. The larger grocery delivery services didn’t have them listed as an option.”
The couple believes that everyone should have access to local and Black-owned grocery stores.
“Nothing brings us more joy than seeing our urban farmers all smiles, gaining weekly customers after being significantly impacted by Covid-19,” she added.
From dessert, sauces, produce, and more, The Better Buggy allows customers to pick the items they need through its website.
A delivery driver will visit the Black-owned store or farm to pick up your items before delivering them to your door. No contact is necessary.
