Despite surveys projecting a slight rise in flight and hotel prices this year, travelers are still looking to travel but in a more cost-efficient way. Sometimes, it can be hard finding super cheap flights, satisfying bundle packages, or a hotel that’s not far away from your desired activities.

Looking to travel more in 2019 but not break the bank? Check out the cheapest travel destinations this year.

1. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

This vibrant city has all the amenities of other countries. Just imagine their Little Tokyo neighborhood in East New York or Los Angeles. Walk over their famous Eiffel Bridge. It’s not Paris, but it’ll do.

2. Bali, Indonesia

Here is where you can enter the gateway to Heaven at Mount Lempuyang. Walk through the markets in the hipster district for the island fashion, accessories and other trinkets. I’m sure you’ve never visited an abandoned plane.

3. Chiang May, Thailand

Mix and mingle with locals and other expats in open mic night. Tour any one of the 80 temples in the city, one of which you can receive a free tattoo by a monk known as sak yant.

4. Guangzhou, China

Whether you’re traveling alone, as a couple or with family, Guangzhou is a great place to visit. China has some of the best deals around when it comes to cheap housing, food, and local transportation.

Wine Down Wednesdays sounds great in Portugal, where you can get a glass of wine for about 3€ ($3 USD)

7. Sri Lanka

For $18 per night, book this Grace Green Ville Homestay, suitable for 10, complete with tours and an authentic Sri Lankan breakfast by the host for a small price.

8. Washington, D.C.

Forget cheap.  In D.C., there so much to do and it’s free. Get a library card from the baddest library in the country and tour the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. It might take a day or two but it’s free, you just have to register for tickets in advance.

9. New Orleans

Mardi Gras just ended but any weekend is a good time to visit New Orleans. Live music, jazz and dancing are right on Frenchman Street or for a much milder classic Bourbon Street.

10. Jamaica

Experience dancehall at this Caribbean beach destination. You can book a 3 to 4-day stay with flights included at this resort in Montego Bay for just $500.

Although Costa Rica may be leaning a little more towards the expensive side, there’s still a way to experience the Caribbean waters. For the cheapest rates on hotel rates and discounted tours, travel between May and December.

12. Nicaragua

This country is a place for thrill-seekers. Ziplining, scuba diving and more. Book a flight for just under $400, from Atlanta.

13. Mexico

Imagine twenty people on a colorful trajinera in Xochimilco (boat), booze, food, and live music. Sounds like a popping party for 40 pesos (about $2.20).

14. Berlin

This is probably the best time to travel to Berlin. Roundtrip flights are currently about $500, which is fairly cheap considering hotels are just under $100 a night.

I know Greece sounds expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Fira, the capital of Santorini, is less pricer than other surrounding areas, and you can still get the same breathtaking views, and amazingly cheap food. Expert travel Toni Tone dishes on how to see the city on a budget.

16. Philadelphia

For less than $20, you can get into just about any art exhibit or museum in Philly. After a two-hour bus ride from New York, a cute one bedroom apartment for $100 is waiting on you. “My weekend trip to Philly was one of my cheapest out of state trips I’ve had! It’s such a historic city with a lot to see. Perfect for a fast getaway on a budget,” influencer Kayla Boyd said.

17. Colombia

Solo travelers will definitely appreciate Colombia’s luxuriously cheap and mansions for $20 bucks a night.

18. Cuba

The nightlife in Cuba is all the rave, especially The Malecón. It’s a great place to have fun, relax, watch the sunset, fish or do all of the above. Be careful, it gets pretty rowdy at night with loud music, people dancing and singing and some of the best potato chips I’ve ever had in m life.  If you’re up for it, take a 5-mile run around the seawall.

18. Atlanta

In this historical city of music, culture, and entrepreneurship, there’s always something free or cheap to do. Enter the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park and tour the latest exhibit at the High Museum of Art.

Montreal is a fun city full of beautiful attractions and fun activities. Most of the art museums are free, but only on specific days and times. Also, you can’t go to Montreal without trying their signature Poutine dish.
