Passenger Sydney Watson took to Twitter last week to express dissatisfaction with the seating arrangement on her American Airlines flight. Watson complained of being “wedged” in a middle seat between two overweight passengers.
Why the compensation was issued:
She ranted that the “obese” passengers were “too fat to be on a plane.” She claimed that during the three-hour flight, she was “sweat on” and “touched without her consent.”
“This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine. But it is something else entirely when I’m stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours,” she further complained.
She demanded “repatriations” from American Airlines, which initially responded to one of her tweets with a reply that said “Our passengers come in all different shapes and sizes. We’re sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight.”
The initial response:
Unpleased with that response, she continued her rant. The airline then informed Watson that it offers “a variety of seat sizes and styles, so customers can select what works best for them.”
Now, however, it seems as if she has, in fact, been offered the “repatriations” she sought. According to Lad Bible, Watson posted a letter she received from the airline, in which it offered her a $150 credit.
“I sincerely regret the enjoyment and comfort of your flight AA was diminished due to another customer exceeding their seat’s space,” the letter reads.
“We do our best to avoid uncomfortable situations regarding seats. I can understand your disappointment with the situation not being remedied to your satisfaction.”
The compensation:
“As a gesture of goodwill, I have issued you a $150 Trip Credit which will arrive via a separate email.”
Still unsatisfied with the offer, Watson stated: “I’d rather take the $150 American Airlines offered me as a refund and give it to someone who needs a personal trainer or a gym membership.”
