Would you visit an attraction that’s still under construction? Tripadvisor recently released its “Best of the Best Things to Do” list of the best attractions in the world. The top attraction in the world is a European cathedral that has been under construction since 1882.

Located in Barcelona, Basilica de la Sagrada Familia was the vision of Antoni Gaudí, a trailblazer in modern architecture. The cathedral was vandalized in the 1930s during the Spanish Civil War. In 2005, Basilica de la Sagrada Familia became a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The travel platform releases Travelers’ Choice Awards each year. The “Best of the Best Things to Do” list features 11 categories, including the best amusement parks and experiences in the US and in the world.

Award recipients “are determined based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings for experiences, tours, activities and attractions on Tripadvisor…from May 1, 2021, through April 30, 2022, specific to each award subcategory, as well as an additional editorial process,” says Tripadvisor. 

Kate Urquhart, general manager of experiences at Tripadvisor says, “The awards bring well-deserved recognition to the hard-working and skilled tour operators who have managed to provide exceptional experiences to their guests while still navigating the pandemic.”
