TikToker Yasmin “Yazzie” Weigand’s clip of her “racist” treatment at the East Village’s location of Little Ruby’s Cafe in New York City has gone viral.
On July 7, the 22-year-old lifestyle, fashion, and city vlogger shared her experience at a popular eatery. She claimed the waitstaff prioritized taking other tables’ orders despite her and her mother being seated first. Yasmin expressed feeling like “chopped liver,” emphasizing that the waitstaff seemingly forgot or disregarded her and her mother’s patronage. After a bit of calm back and forth between the mother and daughter duo, they decided to leave Little Ruby’s Cafe.
“They never take our order first. And this table came here after us and they’re getting their order taken first,” Yasmin said. “My mom thinks they’re racist,” added overlaid text.
The TikToker claimed a male employee of the restaurant shouted at her before her and her mom’s exit. “That’s also not how you talk to customers,” she said bluntly.
“He didn’t even apologize,” alleged Yasmin’s mom of the waiter’s behavior.
Reactions To Yasmin And Her Mother’s Experience At Little Ruby’s Cafe
Little Ruby’s Cafe has NYC locations in Soho, the East Village, Murray Hill, and the West Village. The TikToker and her mother were seemingly at the East Village location for dinner. She said the “poor customer service” prompted her and her mom to leave. In her caption, she added that it was the third time she’d experienced that type of treatment at Little Ruby’s Cafe, which was previously one of her favorite dining spots. Her video has garnered over 5.4 million views.
“I am partially to blame here. I didn’t want to think it [was] true until I saw the pattern. Now I know,” Yasmin wrote in her comments after others shared similar experiences at Little Ruby’s Cafe and in NYC generally.
“I went there and the same thing happened to me, I knew I wasn’t bugging,” one person wrote. “Same thing happened to my friends and I, but we waited until they got our order (we ordered a lot) and we just left after,” added another.
One person chimed in and said, “This happens so often in NYC, it’s ridiculous. The waiters forget about you and then expect a 30% tip.”
In a follow-up video, Yasmin said Little Ruby’s Cafe sent her apologies on TikTok and Instagram.
