A viral video shows a Spirit Airlines flight caught fire briefly after landing at Atlanta International Airport. Allegedly, one of the brakes on the Airbus A320-200 overheated, creating flashes of fire and smoke once landing.

There were no injuries or casualties following the event and Atlanta airport confirmed the cause of the fire and the safety of passengers once landing.

In a statement, a Spirit spokesperson recently spoke on the landing: “Spirit Flight 383 from Tampa to Atlanta landed safely in Atlanta International Airport, and upon landing one of the brakes overheated. The aircraft was towed to the gate where Guests safely deplaned without any injuries. Thank you to the Atlanta first responders for immediately meeting the aircraft. The plane will be temporarily removed from service for maintenance.”

Passengers aboard the Spirit flight from Tampa to Atlanta were surprised to see smoke billowing from the underside of the aircraft while landing. Videos of the incident also show a small fire consuming one of the aircraft’s tires.

Videos posted on social media show the reaction of passengers onboard, agitated and trying to figure out what was happening.

Emergency services were quick to the scene and put the fire out before the aircraft was towed to its gate.

It was later reported that the incident didn’t impact any other flights or airport operations in the airport.
