Nashville-Based Slim + Husky’s Is The First Black-Owned Restaurant on Broadway
Slim + Husky’s Pizza Beeria has become the first Black-owned restaurant on Nashville’s most popular street after opening on Fifth and Broadway.
Co-founded by Nashville natives Clint Gray, Derrick Moore, and Emanuel Reed in 2017, Slim + Husky’s is a fast-casual and gourmet pizza joint serving up artisan pizzas and unique cinnamon rolls.
On the menu are pizzas inspired by hip-hop songs and artists. There’s “got 5 on it,” which comes with classic red sauce, a cheese blend, and fresh mozzarella, the “red light special,” with spicy red sauce, fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomato blend, and fresh mozzarella; the “nothing but a ‘v’ thang,” giving vegans an option with plant-based cheese and pepperoni, and more.
There are with locations in Nashville, Atlanta, Sacramento, and Memphis. The owners aim to invigorate less touched areas of the community through employment opportunities and accessible dining experiences including locally brewed craft beer and innovative pizza creations.
In addition to enjoying Slim + Husky’s award-winning pizza, customers can listen to live performances by local musicians and peruse artwork showcased by Tennessee artists DoughJoe, Bexclusives, Trigger, Gallery Symf, X Payne, LeXander Bryant, YOuNique, Walter Louis Smith II, and Santiago Ortiz-Piazuelo, as reported in Eater.
