In recent years, Charlotte’s been rumored to be one of the best spots in the country for young, Black professionals building their careers. But what else does Charlotte have beyond the professional draw? A lot! With a quick road trip from many major cities or a short flight to the centrally located international airport, Charlotte shines bright as a hidden gem of the East Coast.
There are many phenomenal attractions, events, and Queen City staples that give Charlotte its Carolina charm. Explore why Charlotte is a destination worthy of adding to your “must-visit” travel list.
Food for the Culture
There’s a whole list of 101 must-try restaurants located all over the Queen City, but no matter your taste – Charlotte’s got it. Enjoy dinner at James Beard Award Finalist Chef Greg Collier’s restaurant, Leah & Louise, co-owned with his wife and business partner, Subrina Collier. This Southern-inspired modern juke joint created by two Black movers and shakers in Charlotte serves food for both the heart and the soul. It’s easy to see why young Black professionals fell in love with Charlotte’s novel restaurant scene. It cooks up a satisfying experience for all to indulge in.
Culture at the Heart of the Queen City
The talent and expression that lives in Charlotte’s cultural scene will make you want to move ASAP. Nothing captures this more than the Queen City’s vibrant arts and culture scene more than the soul of Charlotte people — past, present, and future. The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, named for the trailblazing and transformative Harvey B. Gantt, celebrates Blackness with a unique experience of events, programs, and exhibitions. Throughout the city’s architecture, amazing murals imagined by Black artists retell the stories of the history, communities, and people of Charlotte. With many performance and concert venues and inspiring works of art, it’s not hard to be fully mesmerized by the Queen City.
