The world’s tallest woman recently flew in an airplane for the very first time. Turkish Airlines adapted one of its aircraft to accommodate Rumeysa Gelgi by removing six economy seats and replacing them with a stretcher.
According to Business Insider, last year, Guinness World Records named Gelgi, who is 7 feet and .7 inches tall, the world’s tallest woman.
What happened:
On the flight, Gelgi traveled 13 hours to San Francisco to work with Guinness World Records and also work on her software development career.
She had previously been unable to fly due to her stature, which is caused by Weaver syndrome. The genetic condition causes rapid bone overgrowth. Even when she was a child, Gelgi was too tall to fit in airplane seats.
Gelgi shared photos from the flight on her Instagram profile, calling it “a flawless journey from start to finish.”
Comfort for everyone!
“This was my first flight, but it certainly won’t be the last. From now on, I will be very honored and happy to fly to different parts of the world with @turkishairlines. A heartfelt thank you to every single person involved in my journey,” she said.
Before Guinness World Records named Gelgi the world’s tallest woman last year, it named her the world’s tallest living teenager in 2014. She is also named the woman with the largest hands, woman with the longest finger, and woman with the longest back.
