Enstoolment, or installment, ceremonies are a longstanding tradition that was created by Ghana’s Ashanti tribe in the 17th century. These tribal ceremonies were created as a way to celebrate high ranking officials of various tribes.

Yesterday, actress and humanitarian LisaRaye McCoy was crowned as Queen Mother of Ghana’s Central region during an installment ceremony in Los Angeles.

She was handpicked by the Paramount Chief of Agona Kwanyako, the chiefs, and the entire Kyidom Traditional Divisional Councils for her contributions over the years.

The title comes just a day before the actress’ birthday and she couldn’t be happier.

“This honor is beyond my wildest imagination,” she said during the crowning ceremony. “I plan to do all that I can by using my platform to bring positive attention to this region. I will serve humbly.”

“I’ve had lots of accomplishments in my life, personally and professionally, but I didn’t get to this point alone. It’s taken a great team of people along the way. To have such an honor bestowed upon me by my own African people is a testament to my hard work and character. It’s like a dream coming true before my very eyes.”

With this title, LisaRaye will have some power and influence on the decisions that are made by the region’s government.

It will be interesting to see how the former Turks and Caicos First Lady will use her newfound power.
