LA Pride is taking over Universal Studios throughout June to collaborate on programming celebrating and honoring Los Angeles’ LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. Cleverly, the partnership’s motto is “Pride is Universal.”
All of the collaboration’s events will happen at Universal Studios Hollywood. After the theme park closes to the general public on June 8, they will host a late-night party for “Pride Is Universal” ticket holders until 2 a.m. The colorful event will include two DJs, cash bars, dance floors, party lighting, a drag show, and 14 Universal characters adding to the festivities. According to Universal’s site, ticket holders for the evening will also have access to select restaurants, stores, and theme park rides.
The programming above will also be included at an event on June 15, slated to be “an inclusive prom experience for guests of all ages.” Another celebration date at the park is scheduled for June 25.
Additionally, ticket holders are invited to enjoy Universal’s daytime Pride-themed programming and its LA Pride VIP Lounge. The theme park’s website detailed that a portion of ticket sales will go toward Christopher Street West, the nonprofit that organizes the LA Pride Parade and Festival, and other related events.
What’s Else Is Happening This LA Pride?
LA Pride In The Park is going down Saturday, June 8, at LA State Historic Park. Ricky Martin is headlining the lineup, which also includes MUNA, Tokischa, JoJo Siwa, and more. The 54th annual parade is the following day on Hollywood Boulevard. June 9 will also host a Parade Block Party.
Later in the month, Los Angeles is having an LGBTQ+ Pride Night at Dodger Stadium and a special Cinespia night at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
LA Pride, first celebrated in 1970, is the longest-standing permitted parade for gay rights in the world. The first celebration, 54 years ago, commemorated the events of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York City in 1969.
