Georgia is home to some of the best attractions in the world. The Coca-Cola Center, Piedmont Park, and not to mention the newly built Mercedez Benz Stadium. There are also some rather unique places nearby that will ignite the explorer in you.
The good people at Hogg Mine in LaGrange, Georgia aren’t digging for gold. They’re looking for hidden crystals and one-of-a-kind gems right below the earth’s surface. If you’re a first-time digger, yet interested in getting your hands dirty, you will appreciate the safety talk and tour of the mine upon arrival.
You never know what you’ll come across at Hogg Mine. At any moment you can find smokey crystals with amethyst tips, rose quartz, black tourmaline, aquamarine, beryl and more. It’s like a modern-day scavenger hunt with treasure at the end.
The mine is located on private property, requiring the guest to meet as a designated meeting area upon arrival.
You can dig for as long as you like, or at least until the property closes at 5 pm. However, there’s a catch, tools aren’t provided so you’ll have to bring your own.
You’ll need the basics: gloves, safety goggles, shovel, pick, a sledgehammer and a 5-gallon bucket. Don’t forget some water, digging can be tiresome.
Guided digs are $35/person and free for kids under age 16. The next dig date is on October 19th, with dates in November and December, leading into 2020.
