In the heart of Dallas, a unique community has blossomed, offering a lifeline to new fathers navigating the challenges of parenthood. The Daddy Stroller Club of Dallas (DSSC) was born from a need for support and connection among fathers.
Kalvin Bridgewater’s wife, Eve Akins, inspired the idea for DSSC. She is a well-known Dallas doula who created a thriving community for young mothers. Her weekend gatherings allowed mothers to uplift each other, share experiences, and offer support. Seeing the positive impact of these meetings on his wife, Bridgewater realized the necessity for a similar space for dads, leading to the creation of DSSC.
A Father’s Journey To Community
Bridgewater experienced firsthand the overwhelming changes that come with parenthood. After the birth of his daughter, his wife’s struggle with postpartum depression became evident, as he described in a statement. She was often tearful, doubting herself, and withdrawing from social interactions. While supporting her, he didn’t realize how much he was changing too. This realization highlighted a gap in support for fathers. The founder envisioned a place where dads could gather, share their experiences, and build each other up. The Daddy Stroller Club was formed to provide a supportive community where fathers could find solace and understanding.
Joining The DSSC Community
The club’s primary activity is stroller walks, where fathers come together to share their journeys with their children. These gatherings provide a sanctuary for dads to connect, laugh, and support each other. The camaraderie among members is palpable as they navigate the highs and lows of parenthood together.
To join DSSC, interested fathers can start by visiting the club’s website or social media pages. Here, they can find information on upcoming events. The club welcomes fathers of young children from all walks of life, emphasizing inclusivity and mutual support. Newcomers are encouraged to participate in a stroller walk to meet other dads, share their stories, and experience the sense of community firsthand.
Why Show Up?
The Daddy Stroller Club of Dallas is more than just a group of fathers pushing strollers; it is a testament to the power of community and the importance of support in the fatherhood journey. The club provides a warm and welcoming community for fathers seeking connection, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
