Luxury is a word commonly used to describe opulent vacations, decadent meals and shopping experiences at high-end shops, but luxe is up to us to define. You can find it in your daily life, like venturing to your neighborhood café for a cup of coffee, and when it comes to travel— you don’t have to fly international for a luxe experience.

This year is all about Black women living and experiencing luxury on our own terms. So, remember to take time for yourself to enjoy the soft life. If you’re on the East Coast and looking for an over-the-top getaway, look no further than the City of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is a city rich in art and culture, with world-class museums and galleries, incredible restaurants and shopping. Here’s how to enjoy a luxury staycation in Philly.

1. Where To Stay

Finding a place to stay is the first step to curating a luxury staycation experience. The Four Seasons Philadelphia is Philly’s first and only Forbes Five Star Hotel & Spa, and you’ll see why when entering the property. Located at the Comcast Center, the hotel’s lobby is on the 60th floor, where you’re literally transported above the clouds and into a luxury oasis.

The property is filled with fresh flower arrangements by world-renowned florist Jeff Leatham, and you can relax in the spa, which has 700 pounds of crystals in the wall or lounge by the infinity pool, overlooking the Philadelphia skyline.

If you’re all about rest, the plus bed and room service options from Chef Jean-Georges and Chef Greg Vernick’s menu has you covered!

2. Coffee at Vernick Coffee Bar

Before starting your day and exploring the city, head to Vernick Coffee Bar, located in the Comcast Center. Grab coffee or tea and a pastry and get ready for a fun day in the city.

Located in the heart of Philly, the Barnes Foundation is a must if you’re an art lover. You can book a 60-minute private tour experience if you request a tour at least four days in advance.

Paintings shown at the Barnes Foundation belonged to Philadelphia art collector Albert C. Barnes, who supported social justice, progressive education and worked with the Black communities in the city to provide more access to art.

When visiting the Barnes Foundation, you’ll see work by renowned artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, and more.

4. Ubuntu Fine Art Gallery

Ubuntu Fine Art Gallery is named after the South African proverb, meaning we are all universally connected through humanity. The gallery is owned and curated by Steven CW Taylor and is the first Black owned, single artist fine art photography gallery in the US, according to its site.

You’ll find gorgeous large-format photographs and limited-edition pieces to spark inspiration and appreciation for the arts.

6. Grab Lunch at The Love

After a morning filled with art and shopping, make your way to The Love, located near Rittenhouse Square. The menu is crafted around ingredients that are seasonal and local.

If you’re wanting to indulge, the Take Me Away (friend Nashville hot chicken, grilled brioche, pickles and comeback sauce) is exceptional.
