Pennie’s Tea, a Black-owned company producing quality teas, can now be found nationwide in 22 states.

According to Black News, the brand is currently being distributed in Whole Foods, Giant, and The Fresh Market stores throughout the states of Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Originally from a small Chicago suburb, founder and CEO Pennie Crockett, was given her name by her father, who, after her birth, noticed that his tiny daughter reminded him of a penny.

“Pennie Crockett grew up to become a well-educated and successful professor, wife, and mother. However, Pennie divorced her husband and found herself in an abusive relationship,” reports Black News.

Pennie went to live with her daughter in a shelter for women who had been victims of domestic abuse. However, the abuse had already began to take a toll on her health. The stress of the situation caused her to suffer from various medical issues, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS.)

Determined not to further harm her body by using prescription drugs, Pennie began to research and learn about holistic medicine and its many benefits. This eventually led to her creating Pennie’s Tea with the goal of helping herself and others live healthy lives.

In addition to their various bottled teas available in delectable flavors like Ginger Peach Blast, Strawberry Kisses, and Tropical Bliss, Pennie’s Tea offers loose teas providing a variety of health benefits. The company’s popular Weekend Detox Tea and Instant Colonic Weight Loss Detox Tea contain special blends of herbs and roots designed to help you lose weight, rejuvenate your body, and feel less bloated.

Pennie’s other loose tea varieties include At Ease Tea, Serene Black Tea, Energy Tea, Multi-
Relief Tea, Matcha Japanese Green Tea, as well as classic flavors such as Darjeeling, Hibiscus, Ginger, Echinacea, Elderberry, and many more. Customers who need assistance determining which tea would be ideal for them can visit the What Tea Is For Me? page on the Pennie’s Tea website.

“We take great satisfaction in using the finest quality of ingredients from around the world,” says the company’s website. “We pride ourselves in bringing you great tasting tea, and providing you with the freshest quality. Each blend of our tea is hand-picked and crafted to ensure the finest quality product. Everyone has different taste buds, so we offer many different teas to suit your individual needs and taste satisfaction.”

A percentage of the proceeds from Pennie’s Tea is donated to the shelter that took Pennie and her daughter in during their hour of need. She credits the shelter with saving their lives and shares more details of her life story in her book Dangerous Love: From Battered to Boss Lady.
