A newlywed couple from Scotland was perplexed after finding out about a weird rule implemented by their hotel.
Magdalena Brylinska-Beaton, 36, and her husband Andrew Beaton, 37, were frugally honeymooning in Majorca, Spain at a 2-star resort. According to the LAD Bible, the couple intentionally booked a discount honeymoon trip. They weren’t too concerned about the quality of the resort as long as it was clean. They intended, instead, to spend time more time exploring Spain than in their room.
However, they quickly realized that they’d gotten what they’d paid for.
What Happened?
“There were bad reviews but there were also good reviews saying, ‘Not as bad as people say,'” Magdalena said.
Their first warning sign came when the driver transporting them to the Sun Club El Dorado hotel laughed when they informed him where they were staying.
“He said, ‘Oh, Sun Club El Dorado,’ and then started laughing,” she said. “That was the first thing I should have picked up on.”
Once they arrived at the resort, the couple was given two bright-colored, plastic cups to use during their stay. The hotel staff informed them that they were required to drink from these cups throughout the duration of their visit. Magdalena thought they were joking until she realized they weren’t.
The Honeymoon Cup Scandal Continues
“The first night I went to the bar and asked for a sangria and the guy says, ‘Where is your cup? You must have been given cups at arrival?'” she said.
The couple was also expected to use these same cups for morning coffee and any other time they purchased a drink at the resort. Realizing the cups weren’t fully clean, the newlyweds used body wash to clean out the cups throughout their honeymoon.
Magdalena and her husband booked their budget honeymoon through the site Loveholidays. The website released a statement about the couple’s vacation fiasco saying, “We’re sorry Magdalena Brylinska-Beaton’s experience did not live up to her expectations on this occasion. While we always encourage customers to raise any issues with our dedicated in-resort team at the time so we can address them, we’ve reviewed her case and issued a refund for the days she did not use the hotel.”
As for the couple’s honeymoon experience, they left the Sun Club El Dorado hotel and spent the extra money for a stay at another hotel because they couldn’t afford to fly back home early. Magdalena hopes her experience serves as a warning for other honeymooners traveling on a budget.
“What I’ve learned is that times are changing, if you book cheap it’s a disaster,” she said.
