Hoping to visit Jamaica sometime this year? American Airlines has been offering service to and from the island for nearly 50 years, and in November, they will expand to Ocho Rios. Most visitors arrive at Sangster International in Montego Bay or Norman Manley in Kingston; the two major airports. American Airlines will be the first US carrier to fly into Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel. This town is 15 km from Ocho Rios, home of the legendary Dunn’s River Falls.

José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Premium Guest Services for American Airlines, issued the following statement:

“As we celebrate our 45th anniversary in Jamaica, we are thrilled to launch our third destination on the island, Ocho Rios, becoming the first U.S. airline that offers access to this Caribbean paradise. Flight 4007 will connect our customers with Ian Fleming International Airport, just minutes away from some of Jamaica’s most beautiful natural treasures, like James Bond Beach and Dunn’s River Falls.”

As mentioned in an American Airlines press release, “service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ) launches on November 5, and will be operated by Envoy on Wednesdays and Saturdays with Embraer E-175 aircraft.”

The press release also stated that “the launch of American’s third destination in Jamaica will complement the airline’s robust Jamaican footprint, including service to Kingston (KIN) from Miami (MIA) and to Montego Bay (MBJ) from MIA, Philadelphia (PHL), Charlotte (CLT), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), New York (JFK) and Chicago (ORD). Year-round service between MBJ and Austin (AUS) launches on June 4.”

Located on the north coast of Jamaica, Ocho Rios has delicious food, fabulous resorts and arresting beauty. Its most celebrated attraction, Dunn’s River Falls, is great for wading, climbing and photography. A bit outside of Ocho Rios is The Blue Hole, a limestone sinkhole with brilliant blue water that is best enjoyed earlier in the day. For thrill-seekers, check out Mystic Mountain, where you can take in sweeping views from above via a chairlift.
