Krasota, situated in Dubai’s upscale restaurant neighborhood, exemplifies how innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), are pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in the kitchen. The popular eatery’s multisensory dining experiences draw customers from different parts of the world. And now, this fine dining institution has fascinated customers by bringing the late French chef Paul Bocuse “back to life” to describe the meals on its menu.
Co-founded by digital artist Anton Nenashev, acclaimed chef Vladimir Mukhin, and entrepreneur Boris Zarkov, Krasota offers an eight-course “Imaginary Futures” show. This experience takes diners through speculative visions of the future. As CNN reports, each course is meticulously themed, ranging from underwater cities to space colonies.
AI And Deepfake Technology
Central to Krasota’s innovative approach is its use of AI and deepfake technology to create lifelike videos of legendary Chef Paul Bocuse, who passed away in 2018. These videos feature Bocuse discussing and explaining the intricate details of the dishes served. The technology behind this involves AI-generated projections and deepfake algorithms. The technologies recreate Bocuse’s likeness and voice with remarkable accuracy.
Nenashev designed the projections using 3D computer graphics software. On the other hand, Mukhin used the generative platform Midjourney to reimagine Bocuse’s iconic recipes, such as his signature truffle V.G.E soup. The result is a digital-age séance that evokes Bocuse’s memories and style. For patrons, dining here is a different kind of education and entertainment.
Integrating Deepfake Videos Into The Dining Experience
The deepfake videos are integrated into Krasota’s dining experience. In a dark, round dining room, diners sit at a 20-seat circular table surrounded by curved walls that serve as projection screens. More than 20 projectors display 3D video graphics. These bring the deepfake Bocuse to life. The late chef then guides diners through each course with detailed explanations.
An interactive tabletop powered by artificial intelligence and equipped with sensors to differentiate between things elevates this immersive arrangement to new heights. The result is targeted projections, such as fireflies on glasses and plates. There are also interactive gaming aspects like shooting passing spaceships in space-themed scenarios.
Zarkov explains that the motivation behind using AI and deepfake technology is multifaceted. The primary goal is to enhance the educational and entertainment value of the dining experience. By bringing Bocuse’s culinary legacy into the modern era, Krasota creates a personal connection between the chef and the diners. In this way, the restaurant pays homage to his contributions to fine dining.
