Bacalar is easily one of the most underrated spots in Quintana Roo. Often left off travel lists by those preferring the party towns of Tulum or Playa del Carmen in the state, Bacalar’s reputation doesn’t get nearly as much hype as it deserves. Truly the glory of Bacalar lies in the fact that the magic lakes surround the region and make it permanently a beautiful site to visit, no matter what time you arrive.

This is the spot to visit for those looking to enjoy water sports and quad biking in turquoise blue waters. With a range of lakes to explore in this magic town (pueblo magico), there is plenty to admire and surely a lake to satisfy each of your adventure cravings for each day of your trip.

Tepoztlán in Morelos is a quick trip away from Mexico City and 100% worth it. This mountain town is full of chill vibes, cabins, and mountains to hike. Adventurers looking to spend time in the precious outdoors will appreciate what Tepoztlán has to offer. Think long walks up the mountains, forest-filled days, and long-nights warming-up by the fire.

Adventurers looking for a change from the bustle and a retreat into fresher heights will enjoy a retreat to Tepoztlán.

Chiapas is full of great and underrated spots, this is no surprise. Think San Cristobal de las Casas, the small mountain town renowned for art, resistance and live music, or Chiapa de Corzo, another town bursting with color and fewer tourists. Palenque is by far a hidden gem (literally hidden in the jungle and temples) that many travelers never forget. A trip to Palenque isn’t recommended by most Mexicans for no reason.

Pack your bug spray and your sun lotion, a trip to Palenque is tough on the body but always worth it. Travelers looking for an abundance of waterfalls, rivers, and ancient temples enjoy Palenque.

Catamaco, Veracruz

Similar to Chiapas, the state of Veracruz has incredible natural wonders to explore. This is a state known for having it all. Adventurers looking to indulge in the towering, iconic waterfalls at Catemaco are absolutely in for a treat. Veracruz in general is an underrated state but there is something special about Catemaco that is worth adding to your adventure list.

An excursion in itself, Catemaco is a bus journey away from Veracruz Port and is sure to blow you away. The water spraying from the waterfall is itself a wonder and makes for a refreshing trip.
