A few weeks back, a close friend of mine took a birthday trip to Europe. The trip included visiting over 5 countries and London was her first stop. Considering that, deep down inside, I am a true student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I was excited to hear every detail of her London voyage.

What she told me correlated a lot of Black millennial travelers have said. London is a magical city, full of diversity and hidden gems. Although she did say the cuisine wasn’t the best, London ranked high on her list of most memorable places during her time in Europe.

One of Europe’s most historic cities full of lights, ancient places, and majestic royalty, more Americans have traveled to London in 2022 than ever before. There are plenty of things to see and do. So a trip to London is a jammed-packed adventure you’ll never forget. Here are a few reasons more Americans are making the journey overseas for London’s bright lights.

According to Traveler Insights Report, London was the third most booked destination globally in the second quarter of 2022. This is partly due to more flights being available between North America and the UK. Multiple airlines launched a new route to London from the US. British Airlines began offering the first direct flight from Portland to London. They also resumed routes from Pittsburgh and San Jose. United Airlines also introduced new routes to London. So travelers have a lot more options for UK travel than in past years.

Believe it or not, many Americans have ventured to London this year for their long-reigning Queen. In light of her recent death, airline companies are gearing up for heavy traffic as American flock to the UK for her upcoming funeral. Earlier this spring, American travelers made their way to London for the Queen’s Jubilee with hopes of royal sightings and entertainment. While some Americans are busy posting memes about the Queen’s passing, you’d be surprised how many Americans have deep ties to British history. Although it’s been a long time since a monarchy ruled in America, Britain’s most recent Queen still holds ties to American hearts.
