Why More Americans Are Traveling to London
A few weeks back, a close friend of mine took a birthday trip to Europe. The trip included visiting over 5 countries and London was her first stop. Considering that, deep down inside, I am a true student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I was excited to hear every detail of her London voyage.
What she told me correlated a lot of Black millennial travelers have said. London is a magical city, full of diversity and hidden gems. Although she did say the cuisine wasn’t the best, London ranked high on her list of most memorable places during her time in Europe.
One of Europe’s most historic cities full of lights, ancient places, and majestic royalty, more Americans have traveled to London in 2022 than ever before. There are plenty of things to see and do. So a trip to London is a jammed-packed adventure you’ll never forget. Here are a few reasons more Americans are making the journey overseas for London’s bright lights.
More Flights From North America
According to Traveler Insights Report, London was the third most booked destination globally in the second quarter of 2022. This is partly due to more flights being available between North America and the UK. Multiple airlines launched a new route to London from the US. British Airlines began offering the first direct flight from Portland to London. They also resumed routes from Pittsburgh and San Jose. United Airlines also introduced new routes to London. So travelers have a lot more options for UK travel than in past years.
Anything For The Queen
Believe it or not, many Americans have ventured to London this year for their long-reigning Queen. In light of her recent death, airline companies are gearing up for heavy traffic as American flock to the UK for her upcoming funeral. Earlier this spring, American travelers made their way to London for the Queen’s Jubilee with hopes of royal sightings and entertainment. While some Americans are busy posting memes about the Queen’s passing, you’d be surprised how many Americans have deep ties to British history. Although it’s been a long time since a monarchy ruled in America, Britain’s most recent Queen still holds ties to American hearts.
London is one of Europe’s most historic cities. Traces of civilization in the area can be traced back to the Bronze Age and tales of the city’s royalty, knights, and servants can be read throughout many texts. There are many historic sights to see in London. From castles and palaces to museums and famous pubs, there’s plenty of history in this British city. Buckingham Palace tops the list as one of the most visited places in London. Other historic places worth visiting include the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Big Ben.
High On Nightlife
Many Americans are traveling to London for its thriving and colorful nightlife scene. London nightlife is broken apart into different districts. Depending on what type of vibe you’re seeking will decide which district you head to. For five-star, exclusive spots, you’ll want to head to Mayfair. With its live music venues and trendy restaurants and bars, SoHo is a must-visit district when in London. If you’re looking for large, cultural events and concerts, make sure you visit East London and you’ll find bohemian nightlife in Camden. No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find something to do in London’s nightlife scene.
The city of London has a lasting charm American travelers can’t seem to get enough of. Although traveler numbers have been up so far, the city is expecting even more North American travelers in the second half of 2022. There are a plethora of events, festivals, cultural activities, and sporting events taking place in London during the latter part of the year. Travelers will be able to enjoy events like the London Marathon, Frieze London, and the NFL in London as the holiday season nears. Drake, KISS, and Swedish House Mafia are also headed to the British city for live concerts and American travelers are heading overseas for the show. With so much to see and do, it’s no wonder more American travelers are going to London this year.
