One of the world’s best airlines is getting rid of its first class.

Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, says the return on investment on luxury seats isn’t worth it because the airline’s Business Class offers similar perks.

“Why should you invest in a subclass of an airplane that already gives you all the amenities that first class gives you,” Al Baker told Bloomberg during the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Istanbul. “I don’t see the necessity.”

He says the changes will come on the next-generation Boeing 777X aircraft. According to Aerotime, Qatar Airways currently has 14 planes that currently offer first-class seats. Ten planes are the Airbus A380, and four are the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Boeing has paused production on the 777X, but plans to resume before 2024. Al Baker says Qatar Airways will be the first airline to take the 777X. Being the first isn’t something new for the airline. Qatar Airways was the launch customer of the 777X- BF in January 2022.

What Is The Boeing 777X?

He says the changes will come on the next-generation Boeing 777X aircraft.

According to Aerotime, Qatar Airways currently has 14 planes that currently offer first-class seats. Ten planes are the Airbus A380, and four are the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Boeing’s 777X is slated as the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine jet. It’s designed with upgraded aerodynamics and engines, allowing the plane to deliver 10 percent lower fuel use and emissions and 10 percent lower operating costs than the competition.

However, it’s not just about the performance. You’ll notice this aircraft has spacious and wide cabin architecture and innovations from the 787 Dreamliner.

Qatar Airways Business Class

Al Baker says the best investments are in its Business Class, branded as the “Q Suite.” It’s pretty impressive as travelers experience luxury from check-in to baggage claim.

Q Suite travelers can experience total privacy on the plane with sliding doors. Each suite has ambient mood lighting, fully lie-flat beds and generous storage space.

For people traveling with family, friends or colleagues, the moveable panels transform your suite space into a social area, allowing you to work, dine or socialize with your travel crew.
