We’re gradually transitioning to the cooler months, and visiting museums is a popular fall and winter activity. Courtesy of Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day, you’ll be able to visit a number of US museums, zoos and cultural centers for the unbeatable price of free.

On September 17, seize the chance to soak up some culture, and bring family and friends because why not?

Each year, Museum Day has a different theme. The one for 2022 is “The American Experience.” This will be the 18th year Smithsonian Magazine is hosting the event. It was cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Some of the participating museums include Poster House in New York and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum.

Starting August 15, you can reserve tickets in advance on the Smithsonian website.

Travel + Leisure notes “each ticket will allow the ticket holder free access to any participating museum along with one guest.”

Please note that it’s one ticket per email.

Amy Wilkins of Smithsonian Media said the following to Travel + Leisure:

“We are thrilled to bring Museum Day to the public for the 18th year and highlight many of the museums and cultural institutions that make America so special. Through the support of our incredible sponsors, we can enhance this initiative and continue to foster a sense of boundless curiosity for knowledge and culture across the country.”
