Now, if you aren’t from the West Coast, you’re likely asking, ‘where is San Luis Obispo?’ Don’t worry, we had to look it up too initially. But, now that we’ve been, we can definitely say this hotel is one of— if not the— dopest hotels along California’s Central Coast.

The rooms
Honestly, we can stop after this section, but we’ll give you the full rundown. The boutique hotel is located in the heart of SLO, and is housed in a retro building that has been repurposed.
There are several room types to choose from, but for purposes of this write-up, we’ll talk about the garden suites. The garden rooms are all on the hotel’s second floor— technically the first floor for all rooms.
When you walk into the front door, of the room, you walk into an open layout with warm, natural tones and lots of wood accents. As you turn the corner past the double vanity, you are met with the showstopper. A standalone tub. While this sounds like something you can get at any hotel— some even with tubs on balconies, what sets Hotel Cerro apart is the fact that the tubs in the garden suites fill from the ceiling. Yes, the actual water spout is in the room’s ceiling.

If tubs aren’t your thing, there is still a large walk-in shower as well. Beyond the bathroom is the bedroom, as well as a cute sitting area with a couch and electric fireplace.
If you thought the tub was enough, you still haven’t gotten to the outdoor patio with fire pit. The reason these are garden suites is that each one opens to a patio that opens to the hotel’s edible garden. And yes, if you see something you like in the garden, you are encouraged to pick it and nibble if you please.
The property overall
Hotel Cerro is gorgeous all around. Downstairs, just outside the lobby, is an outdoor sitting area that also doubles as patio seating for the hotel’s restaurant Brasserie. You can have brunch, lunch, and dinner there. Don’t forget your camera because the patio and all its greenery definitely makes for an amazing backdrop.
On the fourth floor is the hotel’s rooftop bar and pool area. After the pandemic, the hotel also opened the area up for local residents, but don’t worry, it still doesn’t get too crowded. Lounge in a cabana as you sip on your Green Goddess cocktail from the bar. Or simply wade in the year-round heated pool.
For those who really appreciate a moment of zen, there is a full-service spa on the lower level of the building. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so be sure to plan around that when you stay. The attraction of the spa is the quiet room. We won’t give away too much, but you’ll want to arrive early, so you can get some time in it.
