In a pioneering effort to enhance diversity and inclusivity within the travel industry, Expedia has joined forces with Green Book Global. The two company are introducing the inaugural Green Book Global Black Travel Review Month initiative. This partnership marks a significant step towards fostering representation and equity within the realm of travel.
Through this partnership, Expedia and Green Book Global aim to amplify the voices of Black travelers. They also are setting a precedent for an industry that values and embraces diversity.
At the heart of Green Book Global’s mission lies a commitment to empowering Black travelers. Established in 2018, the platform enables Black travelers to share their firsthand experiences through the lens of “Traveling While Black.” It offers valuable insights to fellow community members. These reviews aid prospective travelers in making informed decisions about their destinations. They also serve as a catalyst for nurturing safe and inclusive travel experiences.
Expedia to Promote Diversity and Inclusion in the Travel Industry
Lawrence Phillips, the visionary CEO and founder of Green Book Global, underscores the importance of this endeavor.
“Diversity and inclusion are essential in the travel industry,” Phillips said. “The ‘Traveling While Black’ section on the platform gives Black travelers the insight they need to make an informed decision about where they will travel and how they will be treated once they arrive.”
Expedia and Green Book Global meticulously curated a selection of top-rated and founder-recommended destinations. The “Traveling While Black” score, a hallmark of this initiative, is a culmination of candid anecdotes. Black travelers shed light on their experiences, and gauge the warmth and hospitality extended by locals.
Among the top-rated destinations, Dakar, Senegal, Panama City, Panama, New Orleans, London and the Bahamas emerge as shining examples of places that have received glowing reviews from Black travelers. These destinations are welcoming and offer enriching experiences for visitors from all walks of life.
In addition to the top-rated locations, the list includes Accra in Ghana, Johannesburg in South Africa, Portimão in Portugal, Marrakech in Morocco and Oak Bluffs in Martha’s Vineyard. These destinations, handpicked by the founder, embody the essence of inclusive and culturally enriching travel.
