2022 is about to go out with a bang in Ghana. Afrochella event organizers just announced that Burna Boy and Stonebwoy are headlining the highly anticipated music festival for 2022.

But the music celebration doesn’t stop there.

Afrobeat stars, including, Fireboy, Kidi, Ayra Starr, Medikal, DJ Juls, DJ Loft, and more, will perform during the two-day event at El Wak Stadium in Accra.

The theme for 2022 is “AfroFuturism,” a term organizers say they created to reflect on the past, explore the future and create a progressive path for the present African diaspora.

“As we embark on another year of celebrating African culture, Afrochella will bring ‘Afrofuturism’ to life through our core elements of music, art, fashion, and food,” says Afrochella CEO and Co-founder Abdul Karim Abdullah. “We will explore the endless possibilities of what ‘Afrofuturism’ could look like in 2022 and beyond.”

A Festival That's Bigger Than Music

Afrochella gets bigger and better every year, and for 2022, it’s more than the two-day music festival on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.

This year, it’s a two-week experience that kicks off on Dec. 18 and runs through Dec. 31.

Signature events include “Fashion Night Out,” an evening to celebrate African fashion, and the “Afrochella Music Museum,” a museum-like experience that takes people on a musical journey from the past into the future with live performances and art installations.

New this year is “Afrocanteen,” a one-of-a-kind exclusive food experience located right on the festival grounds where 35 food vendors from all over the continent and at least 15 other fashion, beauty, and art merchants will be situated.

Organizers say they are bringing their theme of “AfroFuturism” to life by transforming spaces into an interactive “universe” for festgoers to enjoy.

“As one of the most celebrated cultural moments in Ghana, this year we have the exciting challenge of bringing 20,000 travelers to the country,” says Kenny Agyapong Jr., COO and Co-Founder of Afrochella. “We plan to not only achieve this goal but to make Ghana the premier destination for all travelers around the world.”
