You can probably count on one hand because white men dominate the industry.

In fact, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show less than 3% of US commercial pilots are African Americans. 

That’s why we put together a list are Black pilots that are changing the face of the industry:

Fiona is a pilot-based in the Caribbean. She comes from a family of pilots. She recently made headlines for taking flight with her father who is retiring after 44 years of service.

Carliz is not only changing the game as pilot, he’s a skydiving coach as well. He has over 1,000 jumps.

Jamar said he always wanted to be a pilot. He made his childhood dreams a reality after graduating from Hampton University with a degree in aviation. He attended Naval Flight School and obtained an instrument pilot license.

Laura is an instrument-rated private pilot, an advanced instrument certified ground instructor, and now published author encouraging children of color to fly with her book, You Look Like Me.

Jerome is also a pilot turned author working to inspire young children of color to fly. He just released his first book titled, “My Mom Is So Fly.”
