Traveling to a new region is always exciting, but many people tend to forget that researching the local culture and customs of the area should be just as much of a priority as shopping and packing. Here are a few tips for traveling through Asia that will ensure you remain respectful during every encounter.
Dresscode
China is a perfect example of an Asian country where people tend to dress more modestly. Low-cut blouses and short skirts may not make the best impression on the locals, so be sure to pack a few outfits with more coverage than you may be used to wearing.

Personal Space
As a sign of respect, men do not touch women in public in India. It’s important to be very aware of personal space when traveling throughout Asia, and try to maintain about an arm’s length of space between yourself and others.
Be Open
This is a tip that applies to any International travel (and maybe even local travel as well). It is rude to critique or pass on the food that someone has served you. Anytime you travel to a new region, chances are, you will encounter some new dishes that you are not familiar with. It is polite to try everything – with a smile.
Introductions
Don’t get information with introductions. Calling someone that you just met by their first name is considered rude in Asia. To be safe, use their last name and the equivalent of Mr., Mrs., or Ms.

Gifts Are Welcomed
While packing for your trip, be sure to include a few mementos that you can give as gifts when you arrive. If you are invited to someone’s house, you should always bring a gift for the host. Small items from your home country are very appreciated.
