U.S. citizens traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands will no longer have to complete the USVI Travel Screening Portal, putting an end to travel restrictions. Going into effect on May 31 by executive order of Governor Albert Bryan, the USVI will transition to an “Open Door Phase.”

Who this applies to

This phase will apply to all domestic travelers, including U.S. citizens traveling from the U.S. mainland and other U.S. Territories.

What about international travelers?

International travelers will still adhere to federal guidelines and restrictions. This includes travelers from the British Virgin Islands. International travelers over 18 years of age will have to show proof of vaccination and a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test in the travel portal. Travelers must submit this documentation within 24 hours if traveling by plane, or five days in advance if traveling by ferry. Travelers ages 2-17 are exempt from the vaccination requirement.

Ferry and water taxi rules

Commercial ferry and private water taxis traveling to and from the U.S. Virgin Islands must have less than 75% occupancy.

USVI Commissioner of Tourism, Joseph Boschulte says, “The health and well-being of our residents and visitors alike continue to be our biggest priority.”

Boschulte goes on to say, “Our measures have proven successful and give us the confidence to continue to ease travel and testing requirements to the territory so that we can continue to safely welcome visitors.”

Non-U.S. citizens/non-U.S. immigrants

Travelers must take test within 24 hours of travel
All travelers must be fully vaccinated and submit proof in the USVI Travel Portal

U.S. citizens traveling from an international port

Travelers must take test within 24 hours of travel
All travelers must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination in the USVI Travel Portal

Testing requirements for travel by ferry:

Travelers must take test within five days of travel
Travelers must be fully vaccinated and submit proof in the USVI Travel Portal

U.S. citizens traveling from an international port

Travelers must take test within five days of travel
