If you want to visit NYC this summer, you may have to first quarantine for 14 days before exploring The Big Apple. States such as North Carolina and Florida were made aware in June that they would have to self-quarantine when arriving in New York and New Jersey but the two states have added more to the list.

New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy are requiring three more states to self-quarantine, bringing the total to 19 states.

Delaware, Kansas, and Oklahoma have seen bad outbreaks of the COVID-19 virus which has prompted the governors to add these states to the list.

Other states on that list include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

If you're traveling to New York from the following states you must self-quarantine for 14 days.

The states are: AL, AR, AZ, CA, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, KS, LA, MS, NC, NV, OK, SC, TN, TX, UT.

Governor Cuomo says in a statement, “New Yorkers did the impossible — we went from the worst infection rate in the United States to one of the best — and the last thing we need is to see another spike of COVID-19.”

“I urge those arriving from one of these nineteen states to self-quarantine and get a COVID-19 test to prevent additional flareups across the state and ensure the health and safety of their fellow New Jerseyans,” says Governor Murphy in a press release.

The required 14 day self-quarantine applies to visitors and residents of New York State and New Jersey.

Cuomo announced in a news briefing last month that people who don’t quarantine for 14 days will receive fines of up to $2,000 for the first violation, $5,000 for the second violation, and up to $10,000 for further violations.
