If you know anything about the best-of-the-best in today’s Gospel music world, then you likely have heard the name Jekalyn Carr. The 24-year-old has been dominating charts since the age of 16. While she is most known for her powerful vocals, the singer also enjoys traveling as often as she can.
We recently had the opportunity to speak with the star to get a little insight on how she travels, some of her favorite destinations of all-time, what’s on her travel bucket list, and the latest with her new beauty brand, Jekalyn Beauty.
Since she could remember, Jekalyn Carr has been traveling the world. Of course, once she reached a certain level in her professional music career, the amount of travel only increased.
“I’ve always loved to travel,” Carr told Travel Noire. “Although I now mostly travel for work, there are places that I love to come back to and explore after I’m done performing.”
After all, Carr’s motto is: ‘a balanced life equals longevity.’
Jekalyn Carr’s favorite destinations so far
Carr’s favorite destinations to-date are Costa Rica and Colorado. Although they have differing climates, she said each place had unique qualities that made her fall in love.
“I fell in love with the weather in Costa Rica. It was so comfortable and overall had a beautiful vibe. My favorite animal is a monkey, and there would be days that they would just be outside the home we were staying in.”
She also credits the warmness of the local people, which can be attributed to the “pura vida’ mindset, as well as the country having one of the highest ziplines— a thrill Carr enjoyed.
As for Colorado, it brought that picturesque winter backdrop during Carr’s Christmas vacation one year.
Traveling light is key
For someone who is constantly on-the-go and in and out of airports, Carr has learned that the key to smooth travel is packing light.
“I was once that person who would pack for a 1-day trip as if I was traveling for a whole week. But now I know that less is more.”
Carr says that she is always mindful of her traveling day outfit, and she prefers shoes that are easy to slip on and off, as well as comfortable clothing like athleisure wear.
“Being on the go and being able to travel is a beautiful thing,” Jekalyn Carr said. “But it can be tiresome.”
There are some trips where the singer has an event in the evening, and has to take an early morning flight to her destination for rehearsal and sound checks. She often doesn’t get to her hotel room until after 10pm— and after eating and winding down, the time she actually is able to get in bed ends up being much later. From there, she’s up only a few hours later to hit the road for the next stop.
On Jekalyn Beauty being travel-friendly
What many don’t know is that Jekalyn Carr recently launched a beauty brand, Jekalyn Beauty. It is a haircare and skincare line for women who want a streamlined system of effective products to meet their beauty needs.
“We are certainly a travel-friendly brand and can easily be taken on the go.”
Starting with fragrances, the brand has now expanded to offer skincare products as well as haircare products.
“The products complement each other and make it simple to take care of our God-given features.”
