If you’re considering a trip to Aruba for its pink inhabitants, here are some things you should consider:
The Cost
The flamingos are located on a private island owned by Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, and while guests of the island have free access to the beaches, outsiders do not.
A day pass is about $125 for non-guests.
Here’s another thing: you can’t pre-book days passes. There are a limited number of passes so you will have to visit the resort’s reception in the morning and ask about availability. Day passes are not a guarantee to ensure that the island is not overcrowded.
What About Children?
The island is divided into sides, including the family side and the adults-only side. The flamingos are located on the adult side of the island and the resort restricts access for guests under the age of 18 years of age, according to the company website.
Getting There
The only way to get to the beaches is by boat. Complimentary water taxis leave every 15 minutes from both Renaissance Resorts.
Is It Worth It?
If your only goal is to take a picture with the flamingos and not stay at the resort, it may not be worth it. $125 is pretty expensive for a picture with five-to-seven (at most) flamingos. Not to mention, you may not get access if the resort is full.
The best thing to do is book at least a one-night stay at the resort. You will have access to Flamingo Beach, Iguana Beach, and Coral Beach.
Activities on the resort include water activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and spas for relaxation.
