Khaliah O. Guillory is a pioneer in promoting minority participation in the luxury hotel industry. As the first Black, Queer woman to own a luxury sleep suite, she is bringing a fresh concept to the hospitality sector. Guillory’s story is about strength and determination inspired by her upbringing. She was raised by a grandfather who, despite his educational struggles, secured a dignified living for his family. Her mother, on the other hand, battled Lou Gehrig’s disease while keeping her professional and familial responsibilities.
Starting as a banker, Guillory eventually became a C-suite executive. She was an influential figure in Wachovia Bank. Here, she worked as VP and was a founding member of the Diversity Council. Under her guidance, the company boosted employee retention by about 35% throughout that period. She became a Certified Sleep Coach after all these experiences, solidifying her belief in the paramount value of sleep for her health. She aims to promote a healthier and balanced view of sleep by combating the “team no sleep” mentality that celebrates sleep deprivation.
