Located about 5 hours driving distance from Johannesburg is the southern African country of Botswana. This is the land of the Setswana tribe, where everyone is as warm and welcoming as summer weather.

While driving through Botswana, you’ll see lots of cows roaming freely, not paying attention to the locals walking amongst them. The meat in this country is always fresh and superb and watching the sunset is an event.

If you can, even if only for a short while, you should visit this beautiful country.

For those looking for a quick, 4-day vacation in Botswana, this is what you should do.

Explore Gaborone

Gaborone is the capital city of Botswana and where you’ll find the most action. The architecture is stunning and modern and since diamonds are a big moneymaker for Botswana, there are lots of beautiful hotels.

Go where the locals go and dine at Main Deck Restaurant. Here you’ll find lots of meaty options and some for the vegetarians as well. You’ll get a view of the city area and be amongst the locals who are just looking for a good time.

Table50Two is another great place to get drinks, food and the best view of Gaborone.

This city is fairly safe and the locals are extremely welcoming when walking about the area.

If you’re looking for a more serene space, head to Sanitas Tea Garden. This space is both a nursery and cafe styled eatery and one of my favorite spots in Gaborone. While here, you have to try their lemonade — it’s made in house and absolutely phenomenal.

Other notable things to do in Gaborone include the Mokolodi Nature Reserve and the National Museum and Gallery.

Chobe National Park

To truly get the essence of this park, it’s advised to spend a full day here. Start the day off right with a sunrise game drive where you’ll have chances to spot elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions and more.

Chobe is so great because it is home to one of the healthiest populations of elephants on the continent. You’ll see families of elephants ranging from elderly ones to babies. It’s with no doubt that you’ll see and experience elephants while at Chobe National Park

Going on a sunset river safari is a great way to end your day, you’ll see elephants swimming across the river as well as hippos, antelope, and crocodile.

Tour The Okavango Delta

You’ll be surrounded by wetlands and lagoons while in this area. Embark on the Mokoro (dugout canoes) safari where you’ll see crocodiles and a chance to see the Big 5.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a helicopter ride over the Delta

Gcwihaba Caverns

Explore the caves in the Kalahari desert while at these caverns. You can even rent a 4×4 for ultimate exploration.

If your stay in Botswana is short, you can certainly see a lot of what this country has to offer with this quick 4-day guide.
