On the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, Meghan Markle shares her genetic ties to Nigeria. In a conversation with Nigerian-American comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, Markle highlights her Nigerian genetic ancestry.

Markle: “I just had my genealogy done a couple years ago.”

Fumudoh: “What? What are you?”

Markle: “43% Nigerian.”

Fumudoh: “No way! Na wa o! Oh my gosh! Are you really serious?”

Markle: “Yea!”

Fumudoh: “This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba… do we know?”

Markle: “So, I mean, I’m going to start to dig deeper into all this because anyone that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like – *gasps* – what?!”

Fumudoh: “This is huge for our community. No honestly, you do look like a Nigerian-, you look like my aunt Uzo, so this is great.”

The seventh episode of the Archetypes podcast – titled “Upending the ‘Angry Black Woman’ Myth with Issa Rae & Ziwe – features candid conversations with each of the previously mentioned multi-hyphenate creators. In the episode, Markle aims to debunk the myth “of the label often pinned on Black women – ‘angry.’” The conversation features a raw conversation with Issa Rae along with chats with Ziwe and Professor Emily Bernard, a Professor of English at the University of Vermont.
