There’s Black romance in the air, and we’re here for it. On May 6, 2023, Simone Biles exchanged vows for a second time with her new husband, football player Jonathan Owens.

The glitzy destination wedding was at Umi Terrace, which is part of the Nobu Hotel in Cabo, Mexico.

The pair already had a civil ceremony on April 22 at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston, Texas.

Their Joy Was Palpable on Social Media

The love story started when Biles and Owens met on a dating app in March 2020. The rest is history.

Both shared footage of their marital bliss, and it’s hard not to shed a few tears of joy. Also, prior to the wedding, they posted a number of photos on their respective pages, which clearly indicate their love for each other.

Owens popped the question on Valentine’s Day, which surprised Biles. On Instagram, Owens shared a series of photos of the two of them together, along with the caption: “Woke up this morning with a fiancée.”

In response, Biles gushed on Instagram, “The easiest yes! I can’t wait to spend forever and ever with you. You’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married fiancé.”

Biles explained the reason for the two weddings to a fan, saying, “We had to get married ‘legally’ here in the US since our wedding will be a destination wedding.”

The happy event took place in front of about 140 guests.

Biles Shared Her Thoughts on Her Big Day

As an Olympic gymnast, Biles is no stranger to nerves. But, as she told Vogue, preparing for a wedding was a whole other kettle of fish.

“I was nervous about having a ball gown because I’m so petite,” Biles said. “But it works perfect. I think this is exactly how brides are supposed to feel–luxurious, beautiful, kind of on top of the world.”

She added, “This is probably the most nervous I’ll be… making this life-changing walk. It’s like everything you’ve hoped and dreamed of.”

Cabo Is a Popular Choice for Destination Weddings

For those who want to say “I do” away from home, Cabo is a great choice. It boasts beautiful beaches, as well as fine hotels, resorts and restaurants. With expert planning, any one of these could serve as an ideal wedding venue.

It’s also easily accessible as you can fly to Cabo directly from Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Atlanta and many other U.S. cities.
