Major news for travelers leaving Los Angeles! Los Angeles International Airport will give airplane passengers the chance to carry marijuana in their carry-ons. However, there’s a catch… or two.
LAX’s website reads: “In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Department will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. However, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel.”

In other words, travelers leaving LAX will be able to pack the substance in their luggage, as long as the amount doesn’t exceed the previously mentioned limit. But brave people who choose to do this are still at risk of being stopped and questioned by LAX employees, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents to be exact, because having the substance in one’s possession is still a crime federally.
“If these agents find marijuana in your possession, they will hand you over to local authorities,” a TSA spokesperson recently confirmed to CBS Los Angeles.
However, the good news is that local police will not arrest you if have it. Alicia Hernandez, who is a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles airport police issued a statement to the Sacramento Bee that reads, “Based on our policy, we’re not going to arrest you or confiscate marijuana.”

So, if you’re heading to LAX anytime soon, be sure to check the marijuana laws in the area you’re heading to. And if you plan on getting your Snoop Dogg on and bringing some marijuana to LAX, please make sure it doesn’t go over the allowed limit.
This policy actually commenced in January of this year, when a number of different new marijuana policies went into action as well.
