The new deal between Expedia and Walmart will bring perks to travelers and shoppers. The company announced the new deal on July 25, unveiling new incentives for Walmart shoppers who travel.

Travelers who book their travel through WalmartPlusTravel.com will receive up to 5 percent back in Walmart cash. This includes booking through a collection of over 900,000 properties, airlines, car rental companies, and activities powered by Expedia Group’s White Label Template technology.

“Combined with our other benefits — including free delivery, streaming and savings on fuel — we’re creating a membership that saves customers time and money, whether they’re at home or having fun at their favorite vacation destination,” Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+, said in a news release.

Expedia’s new deal comes not long after the termination of their agreement with Hopper. According to Skift, Expedia fueled some of Hopper’s hotel and VRU bookings for years, despite the two companies being rivals. Now, Expedia and Walmart+ are creating fresh opportunities for travelers looking to save.

“We’re bringing together the ultimate savings membership and vacation booking site to deliver a first-ever travel-focused benefit for Walmart+ members,” Yates said.

The deal is similar to the opportunities Priceline offers through Amazon. According to PYMNTS, Amazon made 40 percent of consumers made purchases on Amazon Prime Day. Walmart made only 20 percent in their savings week.

Ariane Gorin, president of Expedia for Business, said in a news release that the company is excited for the new venture with Walmart+. Gorin said they plan to integrate new features, like AI, into the partnership.

“With this collaboration, Walmart customers will benefit from Expedia’s ongoing innovation through TravelOS, our A.I.-powered travel operating system, as we continue to add new product and feature updates to drive the best traveler experience,” Gorin said.

Through the partnership, Walmart+ members will also have access to Expedia customer service tools, including its virtual travel agent system.
