I love all things makeup and beauty. I have a three-foot cabinet in my bathroom dedicated to all of the eyeshadow palettes, contour kits and face masks you can think of, and my lipstick collection is easily pushing the triple digits, many of which are from my days working as a social media editor in beauty. As my career switched from beauty to travel, I’m more likely to be in an airport than a Sephora, and while in the past I would challenge myself to wear a different makeup product every day, now my approach to makeup is borderline minimal. Traveling has changed how I view the makeup and beauty products I rely on in many ways, causing me to focus more on having great skin and less on makeup to cover up problem areas. I’m on the hunt for black-owned skincare brands to add to my routine (tweet me @shontelhorne if you have suggestions), but these are the products that help to keep my skin in check while I’m on the go.

BOSCIA MATCHA Magic Super-Antioxidant Mask

Why I love it: Healthy skin is at the heart of my routine, and this mask helps keep my skin balanced when I’m traveling in different elements. Heading from Los Angeles to New Orleans to Iceland can take a toll on your skin, and I use this mask once a week to help ease any irritation that occurs from constantly being in different climates.

Embryolisse Lait‑Crème Concentré

Why I love it: I started adding this moisturizer to my skincare routine in early 2018 and I instantly noticed a change in how my skin looked and felt. My skin began to look more even days after I started using it, and it leaves my face feeling incredibly smooth.

Pūrlisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Cleansing Milk

Why I love it: This cleanser is gentle and removes all of the makeup and dirt without being too harsh. It also doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry.

Garnier Ambre Solaire Clear Protect +

Why I love it: Suncreen is an absolute must, and I’m embarrassed I went so long without wearing it on a regular basis. I picked up this sunscreen while in Portugal because it’s a clear spray that doesn’t leave that white layer that causes people with dark skin to look ashy, and the SPF 30 kept me from burning when I was out in the sun for hours. I use this on my face and body right after I get out of the shower and I bring it everywhere I go.
