When Samantha and Paul met, it was love at first sight. There was so much passion that the couple decided to get married after just three months of knowing each other.

Four years later, the couple has unlocked the secret to their happy marriage: traveling.

“We’ve been to Aruba, Mexico, Grand Cayman Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. We love our Caribbean destinations,” said Samantha.

In an interview with Travel Noire, the pair revealed how traveling has made them stronger as a unit.

Travel Noire: What’s your favorite country so far and why?

S+ P: Aruba! We love the people and just the culture. They are just so friendly. It’s a reason why they call it the happiest place on earth. No one will pass on you on the island without saying “hello.”

We live in Brooklyn and are not used to people asking us how we’re doing all the time and genuinely caring.

Travel Noire: What’s the best part of traveling with your significant other?

S+ P: It has helped our relationship just because you’re creating memories together. We’re fulfilling our dreams and crossing out our bucket list together.

It feels good. Some people think that when you get married, life is over but that’s when it starts – especially if you’re traveling. Experiencing life with someone you love just makes it even better.

Traveling feels like couples therapy because you’re doing new things and learning new things about each other.

When we go on vacation together, it’s a time when we get to escape from work and focus on each other. It shows a different part of you someone that you may not have noticed because of work and everything else that is going on.

Travel Noire: Tell us about one of the most challenging times during your travels and how you got through it?

S+ P: When we went to Aruba, the airline actually lost our luggage. When we talked to customer service, we found out that our bags were left in Fort Lauderdale! It was our second year anniversary and we had no clothes, toiletries, nothing,

Travel Noire: What advice do you have for our traveling couples?

S+ P: Compromise! If one of you chooses the location, be sure to hear what the other person’s interests are so it’s not all about you. Make sure you go out and experience local cultures, be safe of course, but don’t be that couple who has regrets because you didn’t experience the destination.
