We know what you’re thinking. A luxury staycation in Tampa?
While the city often gets overlooked by those flocking to see the mouse, or those looking for the vibes in South Beach, Tampa is a great location to “treat yourself” for a few days. From upscale dinning, to top-of-the-line hotel stays, here’s how you can enjoy a little luxe in Tampa— the right way.
Where to stay
Now, if you’ve worked hard and honestly know that you deserve, we suggest a stay at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street. Deemed as the city’s only luxury stay, you can be sure this hotel will check all the boxes to meet your luxe expectations. From a full-service spa to two rooftop pools overlooking the river— with cabanas— this city hotel brings resort vibes.
If you aren’t looking to splurge that much, just across the street (and attached by a skywalk) is the Tampa Marriott Water Street. The good thing about this property is that you can still access the amenities of its sister property, while saving money on your stay.
For those who enjoy boutique offerings, the Haya Hotel is a great option. Found in Tampa’s historic Ybor district, it will feel as if you’ve stepped into Cuba without ever leaving the United States.
Where to eat
Outside of hotel options, where you decide to eat can make or break your staycation. Of course, if you don’t want to leave your property room service is the move. Check out Anchor and Brine at the Tampa Marriott Water Street for dinner on the waterfront, and be sure to ask for wine pairing suggestions.
Brunch and breakfast lovers, Oxford Exchange is the “it” place to be. Although it’s a super chill vibe, the decor will have you feeling like you stepped into a tearoom in London or Paris. You’ll want to get cute for this one, because there are several IG worthy moments.
For an authentic Cuban/Spanish lunch experience, check out Florida’s oldest restaurant, Columbia. While Ybor City is an experience in itself, this neighborhood spot takes things to a new level. First, there are table side sangrias. Yes, your waiter will prepare and mix your sangria right at the table and serve it in the cutest pitcher. Next, the menu features an array of Cuban and Spanish favorites, including in-house made Cuban bread.
Finally, if you’re in need of a vibe with views and people watching, make your way to Ulele. This super cute indoor/outdoor spot sits on Tampa’s Riverwalk. You’ll definitely want to request an outdoor table and don’t skip out on the chargrilled oysters. Thank us later.
What to do
Since you are spending your time in Tampa living your best life, the first thing you’ll want to do is book a spa day. The JW Spa is amazing. Choose from massages, facials, and several body treatments, too.
Want to squeeze in a little fitness? Try a HIIT or yoga class at the area’s Sparkman Wharf. If you want to try something outside your norm, book a stand-up paddleboard or kayaking session with Urban Kai.
For your retail therapy needs, Hyde Park Village is a trendy neighborhood with several boutiques and national retailers.
Finally, for a chill relaxed evening (or day) ride the city’s water taxi to take in the views on the water while catching a little breeze. You can even hop on and hop off with your day pass.
